We’re happy to inform you that we’ll be at GenCon this year, with a tournament, a story prize and even physical prize support. Read on for all the details!
For a thousand years, the island of Sanctuary has remained abandoned, isolated, twisting in upon itself as it waited out its purpose. In that long age, the dead that fell into Toshigoku’s wrath during the first war with the Dark Kami, promised sanctuary, and yet unable to fulfil their purpose, have turned upon each other in the volcanic vents of the new Crab lands. But the conflict between the clans has brought new bloodshed to Sanctuary’s shores and the first soul on Sanctuary has been condemned to Toshigoku. And, following those footsteps, Toshigoku has returned. Seemingly out of nowhere, the volcanoes of Crab lands have fully erupted with the angry spirits of the dead. Who will rise to the occasion and become the great hero that will lead the clans to victory…or a stalemate…against those warped by the Realm of Slaughter?
Welcome to this year’s special GenCon event, where players will compete to protect their new-found lands and the Empress. We have once again received a slot at the tournament space of Pine Box Entertainment in Hall C – thank you!
The tournament is on Thursday, July 31 and we’ll start at 2 pm. We’ll finish at 7 pm. Check out the event database of GenCon for more details. As it is a real tournament (not just free play for 2 hours like last time), there will be an entry fee of $10. If you have not found it already yourself and registered for the event, now is a perfect time to do so! We will play with the Emerald Legacy format, so our cards and the card pool of FFG is still valid, with the exception of the rotated sets FFG Core Set, Imperial Cycle, and Elemental Cycle.
Worldly Prizes for Mere Mortals
We’ll also have some prize support in the form of cards for you—depending on the amount of players that will show up, you can take one, two or even three different playsets of promos with you.
If you want to get your hand on these promos, make sure to sign up for the event at GenCon! We’re really looking forward to see as many of you as possible. The more people, the more interesting the tournament.
We’ll also throw a few promos from the last Kotei in the prize pool, to further incentivise you to win. 🙂

What is the format for this tournament?
Is it sanctuary?
I am a form l52 LCG player FFG version.
I am signed up for this event. I am at a loss for how to Get the right cards. How can I know which cards will be valid for this tournament?
Are any of my FFG cards still valid. I have seen the restricted card banned card list but I can’t really make sense of what I am reading.
I really want to play again but I am just not sure how to get my deck built .

Format will be Emerald Legacy, so our cards and a bunch of FFG cards are valid.
You can use EmeraldDBto create your deck and check the validity of it.
You should also join the L5R discord channel, to ask questions about our rules changes, deck ideas etc
